Arsenal FC Forward Alexandre Lacazette Re-Signs with Lyon
Return to Familiar Grounds
Former Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette has made his much-anticipated return to Lyon on a free transfer, five years after leaving the French club for the Premier League giants. The 33-year-old Frenchman was a fan favorite during his previous stint with Lyon, where he scored 129 goals in 275 appearances.
A Free Transfer Arrival
Lacazette's return to Lyon comes after his contract with Arsenal expired this summer. The French international had been linked with several clubs across Europe, but he ultimately decided to make a return to his former club. Lyon, who recently sold Moussa Dembélé to Atlético Madrid, were keen to bring back Lacazette to bolster their attacking options.
A Club Record Signing
When Lacazette left Lyon for Arsenal in 2017, he became the club's record signing at the time. The Gunners paid a fee of around £46.5 million to secure his services. During his five years in North London, Lacazette scored 71 goals in 206 appearances and helped the club win the FA Cup in 2020. However, he struggled for consistency at times and found himself behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah in the pecking order.
