Emma Raducanu Wins 2021 US Open
18-Year-Old Brit Completes Stunning Run to Title
Raducanu's victory is the first Grand Slam singles title for a British woman in 44 years.
Emma Raducanu pulled off a stunning upset to win the 2021 US Open women's singles final on Saturday, defeating Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-3.
Raducanu, an 18-year-old from Great Britain, became the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam title. She is also the youngest women's Grand Slam champion since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004.
Raducanu's victory is a remarkable achievement for a player who was ranked just 150th in the world at the start of the tournament. She navigated a tough draw to reach the final, including victories over 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek, 2021 Wimbledon finalist Karolina Pliskova, and 2018 US Open champion Naomi Osaka.
